Village commune

Village commune

Imagine if one person who retires could buy a house on the beach or in the mountains with their savings. What could 10 people buy if they put their money together? A whole village!
This was the idea of a group of Spanish friends who decided to buy a village on the mountain to retire and relax together. They renovated the village to build their dream, group living experience, a “business class commune”.
They are building common places to share activities such as a big kitchen and a swimming pool. But everybody is going to have their own private home.

Why it matters

We are used to living in an individualistic way, where we have to fight for our dreams and make them come true with our own hard earned savings. But what would happen if we were more open-minded,  started to pool our resources and share our dreams? Is this an example of a new lifestyle based on communal life and sharing? The results could be phenomenal, how could brands get involved in this kind of project and harness some of the momentum?

Bright blind

Bright blind

Designer Makoto Hirata thought about a solution of how to change the potentially mind darkening atmosphere of rooms with no windows. His solution was to produce an electroluminescent “bright blind” that glows and so fakes the ambience of daylight.

Why it matters

Is this an example of our constant desire to find ways of making our homes healthier to live in, or is it simply a piece of art?

Open space mobile divider

Open space mobile divider

There’s been a design trend in the last decade that focused on open space offices. Even though it is seen to encourage communication between employees, a recent user study has also highlighted that it may be harder for workers to focus. An inventor designed and created a device named ‘Efi’. It consists of a connected space divider which enables office employees to isolate themselves when they need to concentrate. Lowering down the ring enables them to isolate from physical noise (visual and phonic) but also from digital noise by filtering data receipt (e-mails, phone calls, instant messages, etc.). Efi's system is made up of two elements : an online service where the employee will define his data filtering parameters and an adjustable space divider which works as a tangible interface with the online service.

Why it matters

It’s easy for people to get distracted nowadays - in and outside of the office. Can you think of a way to modify your product or service that allows your customers to make better use of their time and concentration?
