The QR code that covers a lot of ground

The QR code that covers a lot of ground

A street in Lisbon's historic centre now features QR codes on its cobblestone pavement. When you read the code with a smartphone, you hear the sound of the tools that shaped the street before accessing information about tourist and commercial spots in the neighbourhood.

Why it matters

While more and more tourists are travelling with smartphones, is the QR code a good way to reach out without any language or cultural barriers? Will mobiles allow us to replace immobile information points? Will the QR code become an obvious point of reference for all the information we’ll ever need about an area?

Hang together with this bag

Hang together with this bag

The H+Bag is an innovative concept that allows a paper bag to transform into a clothes hanger, and vice versa. Thanks to graphic instructions on the bag, users can reuse the shopping bag in more  than one sustainable way. While more and more retailers are replacing plastic bags for paper ones, it’s a smart alternative solution to try and reduce waste.

Why it matters

Multi-purpose products not only help the environment, they can also be economical. As consumers like to make smart and environmentally friendly purchases, could this become a wider trend? What other multi-purpose products could be developed in other categories?

Audi builds your perfect car, on screen

Audi builds your perfect car, on screen

Audi has opened its first digital showroom in London named Audi City. It is a fully digital showroom for Audi’s entire fleet. At the dealership, potential car buyers will be able to explore the cars and all their details on huge screens. Visitors can chose the colour and accessories of the car before seeing what it would look like on a digital screen. It also allows you to view technical details such as the drivetrain or the bodyshell – components you can’t normally explore in detail in a traditional showroom.

Why it matters

Car showrooms have barely innovated in the past years. By using technology, Audi gives buyers the possibility to create their perfect virtual car and alleviates any fear of making the wrong decision. The space required to do this can be significantly reduced compared to the floor space needed in any other dealership. The automotive luxury brand can now have luxury showrooms in very strategic and fashionable places in city centres. Is this in-store digital experience enough to convince people to visit it and ultimately buy a new car? Will the idea of not being able to get that ‘new car smell’ or sit behind the wheel put off potential buyers?
