Grow food in your fridge
Herbs and vegetables taste better when they are fresh. Hanna Sandstrom created a new refrigerator which provides additional space where herbs and plants can be planted and grown. Integrated light, temperature and moisture control, nutrition and water provide for growth and progress. With this refrigerator everyone can cultivate their own healthy food at home.
Why it matters
Does the convenience of being able to grow food inside your home make it more accessible to everyone? With outdoor space becoming scarce is this a real alternative to the garden allotment?
Bright blind
Designer Makoto Hirata thought about a solution of how to change the potentially mind darkening atmosphere of rooms with no windows. His solution was to produce an electroluminescent “bright blind” that glows and so fakes the ambience of daylight.
Why it matters
Is this an example of our constant desire to find ways of making our homes healthier to live in, or is it simply a piece of art?
“Edutainment” for the whole family
A workshop called “Video games and mums: Do I really know NINTENDO (DS)?!” promoted by Nintendo and La Cattolica University in Milan tries to explains to parents the educational value of video games. It also encourages families to play together.
Why it matters
Is this a new way for brands to engage their core target audience and their relatives, helping them beat the fear they may have around technology? Is this the right way to make people think about technology as something that unites people rather than divides?
