An AutoTrader survey showed that 53% of motorists are attempting car maintenance jobs themselves, in an effort to save cash. Pit Start is a new DIY garage service in the UK that’s picking up on this trend, and offering to rent space and tools to drivers who want to try their hand at basic maintenance.

Drivers often have to brake suddenly when they fail to spot that one rash driver zooming down an intersection. The auto industry is now planning V2V or vehicle-to-vehicle communication technology, so your car warns you of any oncoming vehicle and can determine the best evasive measure to avoid a collision. The US National Highway Traffic Administration estimates this technology could reduce 79% of road crashes.
Renault has entered into partnership with the cosmetic brand Biotherm to create a “spa car” called Zoe Z.E. This electric vehicle respects the environment and the body: it doesn’t emit carbon, its air conditioning helps to moisturise skin and it diffuses a de-stressing fragrance into the inside of the car. The car might be offered for sale in 2012.
