Sizzling for new cuisine
The steakhouse culture is gaining popularity in Turkey. The Nusr-Et Steakhouse is one of the leading restaurants of its kind receiving high acclaim for its quality, service and ambiance. Other establishments in this category of foods have also attracted a lot of attention recently.
Why it matters
While steakhouses might be old in the West, this type of cuisine is still relatively new in Turkey. There’s often a strong bias towards local traditional cuisine in ‘Next Eleven’ countries, but the notion of globalised cuisine might just be a trend that we need to pay attention to in those markets. What could be the next big imported taste for foodies in those countries?
The ice cream brand Olá is giving away ice creams in exchange for a smile. The brand is inviting Portuguese consumers to express their happiness by capturing their smiles with an innovative camera that measures a person’s expression and takes a picture when their smile is widest. The smiles are then posted on Ola’s Facebook page and website.
The desert brand Danette is turning 40 in 2010. To celebrate, it has launched an operation called “Smile, you are a Danette”. The consumer is invited to post a picture of his best smile on a dedicated website. The 480 first net users will be assured to have their pictures selected. 1000 pictures in all will be printed on packs in February 2010.
