Second chance for second life: Virtual business worlds
Why it matters
Although the mainstream, consumer hype over Second Life has tempered for brands, such virtual worlds are increasing in business importance. By removing the distance barriers, Second Life allows instant communication in a totally controllable environment. Will this mean that bricks-and-mortar conferences will be a thing of the past?
Aushopping is a 3D mall that will be launched at the beginning of 2011. It will allow net surfers to walk in a virtual mall that will include real brands going from clothes, banks or home improvement. It will present itself as a social shopping hub.
In order to promote its B2B services, the French operator SFR has launched a WebTV competition. During 8 weeks, 8 companies will broadcast videos of how they use SFR products. A winning company will be chosen according to the most innovative and effective use of SFR products.
