Interactive window shopping
SNIFF is a project by artist Karolina Sobecka with software design by Jim George, and it could mean big things for the future of window shopping. A 3D image of a puppy is projected against a shop window in NYC. Using infrared lights and a camera, the puppy is able to track passerby’s position and direction of movement and respond to them.
Why it matters
Store window design has become a true art form, as shops try to entice consumers to come in off the sidewalk and take a look around. The technology used in SNIFF ups the ante of piquing curiosity. Will retailers jump on this opportunity to interact with potential customers before they’re even in the store?
