The indoor - outdoor hotel
The Huettenpalast is a new and unique hotel concept in Berlin that offers an unconventional accommodation experience. Opposed to the prolonging luxury trend, the Huettenpalast places value on an affordable and exciting overnight stay by making it possible for guests to camp indoors.
Why it matters
By being an exception to the rule in the hotel industry, the Huettenpalast attracts new target groups. How can other tourism related companies benefit from combining two contrary concepts to form a whole new one?
Based on the principle of random acts of kindness, Royal Dutch airliner KLM hoped to make the dead time waiting for your flight slightly more enjoyable. By tracking travellers who tweeted about their flight, checked into foursquare or discovering where and why they were travelling, KLM was able to quickly get relevant little gifts and surprise passengers in the terminal.
We Hate Tourism Tours is a small Portuguese tourism company, from Lisbon, offering a completely different experience in and around Lisbon, Sintra, Cascais or Sesimbra deliberately avoiding any traditional tourist routes. Instead, it proposes revolutionary tours, with unorthodox local guides, with local perspectives and unusual transport (like an old Portuguese military vehicle...).
