Why it matters
Consumers are now more conscious about the safety of their cosmetic products and many are looking for cosmetics that are suitable for their skin types. Along with making cosmetics entirely edible what other ways can brands reassure their consumers?
The cosmetic brand Sephora has released the MakeUp Notes Samsung Galaxy application that allows users to find out what colours of eye shadow, lipstick and blush suits them best. Simply take a picture of yourself in store and experiment with the palette of colours before getting a makeup artist to carry out the desired result on your face. The final look can then be shared on social media platforms.
Nstyle is a popular nail salon chain that has launched its own nail polish range. Each color in the range has a locally relevant name such as “Helwa” (the word beautiful in Arabic); Jumeira Jane (the nickname of the well-to-do housewives in the upscale neighborhood of Jumeira); “Faraya Flakes” (Faraya is well-known ski resort town in Lebanon) and so on.
