Band-Aid has developed an augmented reality app called Band-Aid Magic Vision, transforming Muppet-printed bandages into interactive characters for kids.

Why it matters

Band-Aid’s insight is two-fold: it helps kids interact with the fun part of bandages, while distracting them from the bad feelings of being hurt. What might make it bigger, though, is that it changes the memory kids form about Band-Aids; if a kid builds an association between the brand and loveable Muppets, it may strengthen the brand bond in the future. How can we be mindful of using technology to embed ourselves into the minds of consumers, rather than just entertaining them? How can we bend the rules of what technology should do for people, in order to entice them to interact with an app they could easily go without?
