Comcast goes Skype
Cable services provider Comcast has partnered with voice-over-IP provider Skype to give customers HD video calling capability over their TVs.
Why it matters
The ability to make and receive video calls and send instant messages is a giant leap towards socialising the content consumption experience. Now, consumers will be able to not only share but also engage more deeply with content than ever before. How can your brand capitalize on both the ability to socialise your brand but also your TV spot as well?
Video calls with your bank
The bank Santander Totta now uses video calls to answer their customers’ questions. Different from Skype, the Santander Videocall only shares the image of the operator, not the customer.
Why it matters
Simple and reliable online services create new opportunities for brands. These online interactions now enable Santander Totta to approach customers in a personal way, giving a face to the brand. Will other services follow suit with less anonymous interactions to gain the consumer’s trust?
Crowd sourced train times
Densebrain, a New York based digital agency, has created a new feature for its mobile map apps called NextTrain. NextTrain uses the information that is sourced from fellow subway riders using the app to predict the arrival time of trains.
Why it matters
Individuals are constantly inputting data into their devices and NextTrain is using this to create a better experience for all involved, without intrusion. Simply participating in a service will provide a service of their own without any additional effort. Will we start to see more apps and technology services in the future that rely on crowdsourcing for their accuracy?
