Work test dummies

Work test dummies

A call centre in Kyoto, Japan, set up crash-test dummies in front of their staff to foster a higher level in customer service. The dummies represent real people and remind staff that they are not dealing with faceless cases but real people with specific needs.

Why it matters

Many American senior citizens detest the thought of moving into a nursing home. But their children aren’t quite ready to have them move in with them either. The Rev. Kenneth Dupin has solved this dilemma with “Granny Pods” or “MEDCottages” – mini mobile homes you can park in your backyard and hook up to your utilities.

Why it matters

In an ageing population, finding ways to maintain people’s independence is crucial for their quality of life. Hotel suite-like MEDcottages include health surveillance technology to give families the ability to directly participate in caring for their loved ones. With this new kind of home, will we see household brand innovation create products to meet new consumer needs?

Jean Paul Gaultier has collaborated with the furniture editor Roche Bobois. Together they have created a new furniture range that is exhibited at the fashion department store, Galeries Lafayettes.

Why it matters

As people’s homes become fashion statements in their own right, the line between interior design and fashion is blurring. Will interior design brands benefit from this trend if people start to redecorate more frequently in a bid to keep up-to-date with the latest interior fashion trends?
