Sesame street gets streetwise

Sesame street gets streetwise

Producers of the popular children’s TV series, Sesame Street, are making an episode focused specifically on helping families through times of economic difficulty. The Muppets and their human friends and neighbours will talk about how to deal with the impact of the recession in an upcoming PBS primetime special, "Families Stand Together: Feeling Secure in Tough Times," starring Elmo.

Why it matters

Will we begin to see more entertainment getting serious and society become increasingly demanding and complex? How will entertainment brands balance their original purpose (to entertain) with addressing the more serious issues in today’s world?

Bank's artful returns

Bank's artful returns

Portugal’s Banco Espirito Santo (BES) are currently promoting ‘BES Arte & Finance’, a space where contemporary art mingles with financial services. Located in Lisbon’s financial district, the initiative is aimed to bring modern art to the masses and give something back to the community.

Why it matters

As distrust of financial institutions hits an all-time high, will we begin to see more and more banks stepping up their corporate social responsibility initiatives and beginning to play a more active role in society in general? Or could this just be another method financial services brands adopt to win back favour amongst consumers?

The face behind the finance

The face behind the finance

Austrian Direct banking specialist Bankdirekt.at have recently started publishing a journalist’s video blog about Wall Street employees. The episodes show how the ups and downs of the economic crisis have affected both stockbrokers and the wider general public.

Why it matters

By depicting real people instead of numbers and stock prices, the complexity of the current economic situation may not only become more understandable but make brands playing in that space  more human. Could banks use this method of communication to make the services they offer likeable as well?
